Tottenham and Liverpool got their pre-season preparations underway with wins over Stevenage Borough and Wrexham respectively.
Darren Bent scored his first goal to help Spurs to a 3-1 win at Broadhall Way.
Martin Jol fielded quite a strong line-up in Tottenham's first friendly of the summer and they broke the deadlock on 18 minutes with Robbie Keane scoring from the penalty spot after Bent had been fouled in the box.
Stevenage drew level three minutes before the interval with Ollie Allen, son of former Spurs hero Clive, scoring with a neat turn and finish.
Spurs restored their lead straight after the break with Bent marking his debut in style as he raced clear onto Ricardo Rocha's long pass before coolly clipping the ball over the Stevenage goalkeeper.
The impressive Adel Taarabt got a deserved goal on 67 minutes with a shot from the edge of the area.
Besian Idrizaj helped himself to a hat-trick as Liverpool beat Wrexham 3-2 at the Racecourse Ground.
The Austrian striker grabbed the opener after just four minutes when scoring from close-range.
Idrizaj doubled the lead on 19 minutes when Jermaine Pennant got down the right and crossed for Idrizaj to head home with a diving effort.
The same two combined five minutes later for Liverpool to add a third goal with Idrizaj heading home from Pennant's cross.
Eifion Williams pulled a goal back for Wrexham on 63 minutes after a mistake by Liverpool keeper Martin Hansen and Williams netted a second late on as Liverpool held on for the victory.
