Kelly finally set for Rams

Derby are finally set to appoint David Kelly as their assistant manager next week.

Rams boss Billy Davies was at loggerheads with the club over their failure to appoint Kelly last season.

Davies spent the whole of last term without an assistant and he was keen to have a number two beside him as he prepares for life back in the top flight.

Kelly and Davies worked together at Preston during the Scot's spell in charge at Deepdale, but a dispute with Preston chairman Derek Shaw prevented the pair being reunited at Derby.

However, the impasse has now ended allowing Kelly to join Davies at Pride Park.

The former Republic of Ireland international will join Colin Miller and Craig Brown in a new-look backroom team at the Premier League new boys.
