Grant claims City snub

New Chelsea director of football Avram Grant claims he rejected an offer from Premier League rivals Manchester City to move to Stamford Bridge.

The former Israel coach left his director of football role at Portsmouth over the weekend to join Chelsea's backroom team

Manchester City were believed to be keen to lure Grant to Eastlands, but the experienced coach says he was always set on joining Chelsea.

"I had an offer from City but I've chosen Chelsea," Grant told The Sun.

Grant also rejected rumours that his appointment at Chelsea had upset Blues boss Jose Mourinho and that the Portuguese tactician had given his blessing to the move.

"Jose Mourinho gave me his blessing for this new job," added Grant.

"It's a dream come true to me after everybody saw that I did a good work at Portsmouth.

"I will be responsible for all the professional matters in Chelsea and a co-ordinator in all football matters.

"I will do everything to help the many causes that Chelsea have."
