Royals close on Fae

Reading are reported to be closing in on the signing of Nantes midfielder Emerse Fae.

The Royals have held a long-term interest in Fae and tried to sign him last summer without success.

Nantes rejected all overtures for the Ivory Coast international last year, but after suffering relegation from Ligue 1 they are resigned to losing Fae.

Reading boss Steve Coppell has kept tabs on Fae's progress and sees him as an ideal replacement for Steve Sidwell.

Nantes' sporting director Xavier Gravelaine confirmed a deal was close to being agreed for Fae's exit.

"Fae's transfer should be finalised very soon," Gravelaine is quoted as saying in the Sunday Mirror.

"Only the fact he's been injured has slowed down his departure."
